A psychiatric service animal (PSA) is similar to an ESA in that they help relieve or decrease symptoms of their owner’s condition. A service animal must also be trained to complete a specific task, that helps the owner cope with symptoms. These tasks must help reduce stress, like reminding its owner to take medication or providing calming pressure with its paws. A PSA needs to be well behaved in public and trained in a task that helps alleviate a symptom of your mental health condition. Training is not required by a professional and PSA’s can be trained by their owner. PSA’s have legally required to be accommodated in more places than emotional support animals.
